William "Bill" Richard McMahan

Mr. William “Bill” Richard McMahan, 84, of Tifton, passed away on Monday, October 26, 2020 at Legacy Village of Tifton.

Funeral services will be held at Leila Methodist Church on Thursday, October 29, 2020, at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Joseph Carter officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 28, 2020, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Albritton Funeral Directors.  The interment will be held in Leila Methodist Church Cemetery immediately following the funeral service with full military honors.

Mr. McMahan’s grandsons and his nephew Tony McMahan will serve as pallbearers.

Mr. McMahan was born September 24, 1936 in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Jacob McMahan and Anna Harlan McMahan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, William Patrick “Pat” McMahan who died July 16, 2001, a granddaughter, Brandy McMahan, daughter-in-law, Donna McCray McMahan, his sister, Mary Knot and three brothers, Henry McMahan, Robert McMahan and Joe McMahan.  He was a member of Mt. Calvary United Methodist Church and was retired from United States Marine Corp., where he served two terms in Vietnam and was a drill instructor at Parris Island, South Carolina. Mr. McMahan had lived in Tifton since 1972 and founded McMahan Service Company, which was a heating and cooling company. He was a man of faith and active in Mt. Calvary United Methodist Church and earlier Trinity United Methodist Church. Mr. Bill loved his family and was a good provider. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Mr. McMahan is survived by his wife, Melba Harrell McMahan to whom he was married for sixty-two years; his son, Scott McMahan of Warwick; his daughter and son-in-law, Shari and Lyn Powell of Tifton; his grandchildren, Lauren Duncan, Sean McMahan, Brandon and Brittany Powell, Andrew Powell, Shane Powell, Lacey Powell, Mandy Brown, Haley and Josh Davidson, David and Kayla McMahan; twelve great grandchildren and one brother, Jacob McMahan of Mt. Washington, KY.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mt. Calvary United Methodist Church, PO Box 1913, Tifton, Ga. 31793
