He was known for his professionalism and commitment to helping others secure their futures.

He was humorous, easy-going, and had a knack for picking at people in a way that brought joy and laughter to those in his presence. Bill found joy in the simple things in life, such as taking naps in his recliner and the companionship of his loyal dog, Sparky. An avid Georgia Football fan, he never missed a game and cheered on his favorite team with unwavering passion.

Bill's proudest accomplishments were undoubtedly his role as a great father to his sons and a devoted husband to his wife of fifty-three years, Jan Archer Abney. His family meant everything to him, and he cherished the time spent with his loved ones.

He is survived by his wife, Jan Archer Abney; his two sons, Michael Abney of Athens, and Nicholas Abney of Tifton; his brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Jeanie Abney of Evans, Georgia; and his sisters and brother-in-law, Evelyn NeSmith of Aiken, South Carolina, and Joyann and Ted Lindsey of Ray City, Georgia.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Patrick Abney, and his brother, James "Jim" Abney.
