Thomas Edmund “Eddie” Sklany, 76 of Tifton died, Saturday, August 7, 2021, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of Albritton Funeral Directors at 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 11, 2021 with Rev. Chip Grantham and Rev. Timothy Harsey officiating. The interment will follow the service at Tift Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening at the funeral home from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
Shelby Baker, John Jacobs, Tom Hunt, Denny Sommers, Tommy Bargeron and John D. Crosby will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the Beacon Sunday School Class.
Eddie was born on February 7, 1945 in Tifton to the late Betty Sklany Fenn and the late Steven Sklany. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter Cindy Sklany Ball, his granddaughter, Leanna Nicole McKee and his sister Sharon Sklany Walker.
He had lived in Tifton most all of his life. He was a 1964 graduate of Tift County High School and he graduated with an associate’s degree from ABAC. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Tifton and he was retired as a lab technician from the United States Department of Agriculture. Eddie was proud to be an American and he was proud of his military service in the United States Army where he served in Europe and was stationed with the 1st Battalion, 33rd Armor Division at Belnhausen, Germany.
Eddie loved flower gardening, NASCAR, the UGA Bulldogs and The Tift County High Blue Devils. He loved his family and especially his daughter, Valerie and his grandson, Shane. He was very proud of Shane. The love of his life for fifty-two years was his wife Martha, who he married on September 4, 1969. Eddie was a very giving man who was loved and respected by everyone. On Saturday night God welcomed him into his Kingdom.
He is survived by wife Martha Day Sklany, his daughter Valerie Sklany Goodman of Waterloo, his grandson Shane McKee of Thomasville, his brothers-in-law, Charles Day of Marietta and Larry Fletcher of Donaldsonville, several nieces and nephews on his wife’s side and his three dogs Bitsy, Piper and Lucy.
Flowers are accepted or donations may be made to Hospice of Tiftarea, 618 North Central Ave., Tifton, Georgia 31793.
