Steven Turner Gibson

Steven Turner Gibson, 75 of Tifton passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2023 in Gainesville, Florida at the University of Florida Health Shands Hospital.

Graveside funeral services will be held in Oakridge Cemetery at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 with Mr. Harold Chambers officiating. There will not be a public visitation. He will lie in state until 1:30 P.M. at the funeral home before the graveside service.

Honorary pallbearers will be J. H. White, Turner Gibson, Jared Smith, Hiram Smith, Clint Kendrick, Clark Kendrick, Wade Kendrick, Brian Cannington, Ben Cannington, Chris Lamb, Johnny Orr, and Brian Orr.

Steve was born in Shelby Tennessee to the late Otis Turner Gibson and Grace Marie Higgins Gibson on December 9, 1947. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-fours years, but his sweetheart of sixty years, Derry Vickers Gibson who died July 18, 2022, his brother John Terry Gibson and his sister Marsha Gibson Orr.

Steve was a 1967 graduate of Tift County High School and then he attended ABAC and UGA graduating with a degree in agronomy.  His favorite pastime was playing with his grandchildren and teaching them about nature.  He loved being outdoors, hunting, grilling and spending time with his family.  Being a UGA graduate, he was a huge Georgia Bulldog fan.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Allison and Lance White of Tifton and his son and daughter-in-law, Johnathan and Rebekah Gibson of Brunswick, his grandchildren, Gracie Ruth White and Sawyer Turner Gibson, his sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Danny Brock of Valdosta, and Derry’s sister and brother-in-law, Fran and Wade Kendrick of Tifton along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
