Shirley Ann Baldree Layfield, 66, of Enigma died Wednesday March 9,2016 at Rehab Navicent Health Center in Macon. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 12, 2016, 3:00 pm at Brookfield Baptist Church with Rev. Gary Cadwell officiating. Interment will follow the service in Tift Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held at the church before the service from 1:00 P.M. - 2:30 P.M.
She was born in Tift County on February 16, 1950 to Curtis Baldree and Avie Watson Baldree both of whom preceded her in death. Mrs. Layfield was a lunchroom manager for Tift County Board of Education. She was a great cook who loved to cook at home as well as at her job in the school system, but she always enjoyed eating out. She was an active member of Brookfield Baptist Church where she sang in the choir, served as the church hostess and drove the van. During the time her children were active in The Tift County Blue Devil Brigade, she ran the concession stand at the ball games. Her hobbies were spending time with her five grandsons whom she loved dearly and camping at state parks.
She married her husband Mitchell Layfield on April 5, 1969. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter and son-in-law; Denise and Greg Millette, of Alpharetta, her son Darren and Becky Layfield of Warner Robins, her two sisters and brothers-in-law; Sara and James "Doc" Cates of Tifton, Mary Jo and Eugene Reeves of Rebecca; five grandsons; Cameron Layfield, Andrew Millette, Jameson Layfield, Preston Layfield, and Bryson Layfield.
