Shirley Anne Steele Frederick

Shirley Anne Steele Frederick was born May 14, 1930 to Ray Myers Steele and Florence Heath Steele in Lafayette, IN. She passed quietly in her home per her wish July 12, 2024. Shirley moved from Miami, FL in the third grade to Waycross, GA and then graduated from Ware County High in 1946 when she attended Valdosta State, then the University of Georgia.

A private family service was held at Oakridge Cemetery.

She was blessed with three children; Gregory, Scott and Candace. Shirley and Cecil Hulete Frederick were married for 64 years having met at UGA where she pledged AOPi. She began her teaching career in Tift County where she taught fifth and sixth grade at Brookfield and first grade later at Annie Bell Clarke. She struggled with cancer all her life privately and overcame serious complications. Shirley owned and operated Mother Goose Kindergarten for 50 years. 

Mrs. Shirley’s husband Cecil H. Frederick preceded her in death on February 6, 2013 along with her daughter-in-law, Julia Jarrett Frederick who died on March 25, 2021.

Shirley’s family is her son Greg Frederick of Danielsville, GA., and his his children; Ashley Frederick son, Alexander Beau of Athens, GA, Andrew and Katie Frederick of Columbus, OH; Shelby and Nathaniel Peeples and son Ridge and daughter Naomi of Danielsville, GA. Scott and Candice Roper Frederick of Tifton, GA. and their children: Kristen & Ben Skinner and daughters Adeline and Meredith of Aiken, SC; Kevin & Megan Frederick and daughters Tollison, Anniston and son Grady of Cleveland, GA. Collin Frederick in Stone Mountain, GA, Caroline & Daniel Conger son Atlas and daughters Avery and Aspen Wren of Tifton, GA. Dr. Candace & Jay Vaughn and son Alden, & daughter Raina of Canton, GA & daughter Calla of Atlanta. Sons; Sterling & Channing of Cartersville, GA
