Sarah Ann Ponder

Mrs. Sarah Ann Tucker Ponder, 92, of Omega, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, October 24, 2016.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 27, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Omega United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Oakridge Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at 6-8 PM at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons; Chris Ponder, Roggie Dunn, Thomas Sumner, Les McCrary, Elliott McCrary and Trey Dunn. Ann Johnson, Jerry Veale , Tubby Hawkins, Michael Massey and Christopher House will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Mrs. Ponder was born on September 27, 1924 in Tift County to the late John and Mary Alice Ford Tucker. Orphaned at the age of 4, she was adopted by her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Warren Tucker.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Edwin Ponder Sr. and her son William (Bill) Warren Ponder.

Having lived in Tift County her entire life, she was an active member of Omega United Methodist Church serving as United Methodist Women Sunday School teacher, singing in the choir, and as the Methodist Youth Fellowship advisor. Her favorite activities included sewing, quilting, working in her greenhouse, canning and freezing, and meal preparation for her family and friends. Her recreational pastimes included picking and shelling butterbeans and picking out pecans while sitting in her rocker on the front porch.

Mrs. Ponder is the mother of two daughters, Sarah Alice P.  McCrary of Sylvester and Patricia P. Dunn (Wayne) of Omega and a son, Russell Edwin Ponder, Jr.; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, Billie Tucker of Tifton and Josephine Tucker of Largo, FL.
