Ruth Thrasher McCormick

Ruth Thrasher McCormick, wife of the late Dr. W.C. McCormick, died Thursday, April 5, 2018 at Cypress Pond Assisted Living Home.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 7 at 3:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church, Tifton. A private interment will be held at a later date. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. prior to service.

Ruth, daughter of William J. and Vannie G. Thrasher, was a lifelong resident of Tifton.  In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, William J. Thrasher, Jr., and a sister, Helen Thrasher Allen.

Ruth graduated from Tift County High in 1941 and earned a degree in Home Economics from Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville.  She was a dedicated homemaker and life-long member of Tifton First United Methodist Church and Covenant Sunday School class, where she participated in many activities.   Ruth faithfully delivered Meals on Wheels for many years. She loved to cook and shared her love of cooking with everyone around her and many wonderful memories came from her kitchen.

Mrs. McCormick is survived by three daughters: Ann Schutt of Valdosta, Julia and Bob McKissack of Valdosta, and Carol and Preston Lewis of Waynesboro, GA.  She was also the proud grandmother of Conner and Eeva McKissack, Laura and Brian Mathias, and Julia Katherine Lewis and great grandmother to Oliver Mckissack, Anni McKissack, and Robert Mathias.   She had been in residence at Cypress Pond in Tifton, where she was surrounded by friends and caregivers. The family appreciates the help and support she received from the entire staff during her time there.   We also wish to thank all the caregivers of Georgia Living Senior Care who took care of Ruth during the last years.
