Mr. Roddy Henry Griffith, 84, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 1, 2021 at his son’s residence in Tifton following a brief illness.
Born February 18, 1937, to the late Henry and Sue Ellen Bowen Griffith, Mr. Griffith spent his early years in Greenville, South Carolina. He graduated from Parker High School in 1955, then received his associate degree from North Greenville Junior College and worked toward a bachelor’s from the University of South Carolina.
His work took him to multiple states across the south, but he ultimately settled in the Atlanta area to finish out his career in software sales and supplies. Upon retirement, he moved to Tifton to be closer to family and joined Brighton Road Baptist Church. He remained a man of strong faith even as his health declined.
Mr. Griffith’s family describes him as "kind" and “generous” and says he “would give his last penny to help someone else.” He enjoyed spending time outdoors, fishing with his son and grandsons, golfing, cheering on the South Carolina Gamecocks, and watching old western movies.
Mr. Griffith is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Andrea and Kelly Girtz as well as his son and daughter-in-law, Michelle and Kevin Griffith. Also, his grandchildren, Trey McKellar, Chelle & Tiffany McKellar, Alex Griffith, Austin Griffith, Noah Griffith Girtz, and his great grandchild, Tatum McKellar. He leaves behind a brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Barbara Griffith.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. in Tift Memorial Gardens on Saturday, October 9, 2021 with Rev. Craig Nalls officiating.
