Major Robert Wayne Duffell, 73, of Chula passed away on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at his residence.   His lord said unto him, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant…” Matthew 25:21.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 6, 2021 at 4:00 P.M. in the chapel of Albritton Funeral Directors with Mr. Tommy Nalls officiating and a eulogy will be given by Mr. Mark Thompson. Military Final Salute will be presented by The American Legion Memorial Team. Due to covid restrictions, the family will only receive friends in the lobby of the funeral home after the service.  Major Duffell will lie in state during the day on Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. The interment will be held Sunday, August 8, 2021 at 3:00 P.M. in Opp, AL., at Peaceful Acres Memorial Garden with full Military Honors. Wyatt Funeral Home will handle the interment arrangements.

The American Legion Family will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Major Duffell was born February 29, 1948 in Covington County, Alabama to the late Leon Clyde Duffell and Louise Blocker Duffell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Melvin “Sonny” Duffell and brother-in-law, Steve Carnley. He graduated from Opp High School in 1966. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Ag Education, his Commission into the US Air Force and his Master’s Degree in Education all from Auburn University. Major Duffell earned his United States Air Force Pilot’s Wings at Craig Air Force Base in Selma, AL. He proudly served his country on active duty for twenty years, then taught Air Force Junior ROTC at Tift County High School for fifteen years. He was an active member of Northside Baptist Church of Tifton. Major Duffell was an active member of the American Legion Post 21 where he held many offices including Commander. He also served as District 12 Commander where he received a National Award. In retirement he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and traveling with his wife. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time with family at Lake Eufaula.

Major Duffell is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Ann Reynolds Duffell of Chula; his son and daughter-in-law, William and Anne Duffell of Florence, SC; his daughter and son-in-law, Laura and David Griffin of Tifton; six grandchildren, Aiden, Braydon, and Addie Duffell and John David, Elizabeth and Kassidy Griffin and one sister, Margaret “Beth” Carnley of Opp, AL.  He is also survived by his two brothers in-law and sisters-in-law Wayne and Sally Reynolds of Kinston, AL and Johnny and Judy Reynolds of Ino, AL, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests you spend time with your family and make a special memory. Donations may be sent to American Legion Auxiliary Unit 21 in memory of Major Duffell, 185 Adams Road, Chula, Ga. 31733.
