Richard Glynn Petty, 54, formerly of the Chula community, passed away suddenly on May 12, 2024 in Valdosta, Georgia. He was born on May 19, 1969, in Tifton to Linda Flowers and Charles Carson Petty. Richard was known for his dedication and hard work throughout his life.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, May 16, 2024 at Oakridge Cemetery with Doug Petty giving the eulogy. The family will receive friends immediately following the memorial service at the graveside.
Jim Langston, Steve Lowit, William McGehee, Kevin Wildes, Austin Petty and Dawson Lowit will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Growing up in the Chula area, Richard cherished his agriculture roots and always remained a true gentleman. He graduated from Tift County High School, ABAC, and Valdosta State University. Richard pursued a career as a self-employed individual with Golf Reel Service and Equipment.
Richard had a wide range of hobbies and interests that brought him joy. From pheasant hunting to deep-sea fishing, playing golf to Kansas bird hunting, he lived life to the fullest. He also had a passion for collecting John Deere toy tractors and was an avid Georgia Bulldogs fan. Above all, he found great pleasure in being a John Wayne enthusiast.
Family meant everything to Richard. He is survived by his mother, Linda Flowers Petty of Chula; his brother and sister-in-law, Doug and Rhonda Petty of Chula; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Tammy P. and Steve Lowit of Milton and Tracie P. and Kevin Wildes of Canton. Richard also leaves behind his nieces and nephews: Austin and Jenna Petty, Anna and Cody Ball, Maggie Wildes, Brooke Wildes, Sophia Lowit, Dawson Lowit; as well as his great nieces and nephews: Josie Petty, Landon Petty, Colson Ball, Kinley Ball.
Richard will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His kind heart, strong work ethic, and zest for life will be remembered forever in the hearts of those he touched. May he rest in peace.
