Rev. Hampton lived most of his life in Irwin county where he graduated from Irwin County High School in 1966, then in 1969 graduated from Georgia Tech with bachelors in civil engineering. He was the owner of Coastal Plains Construction and Hampton and Associates Surveying and the pastor of Grace Baptist Church since 1986. The grandchildren remember him as a renaissance man: entrepreneur, pastor, farmer, and businessman who was deeply intelligent, respectable, wise and patient. He was a Bible believing Christian whose main concern about others was their spiritual well being with God. He loved fishing, working with his horses and listening to gospel music.
Rev. Hampton is survived by his wife, Connie Young Hampton; his daughter and son-in-law Sonya and Klayton Burns of Chula. He was “Gan Gan” to his five grandchildren, Colby Godwin, Will Godwin, Lauren Grace Godwin, West Burns and Nora Jane Burns.
