Peggy Elaine Mathis

March 6, 1950 — April 16, 2017

Peggy Elaine Mathis, 67, of Tifton died Sunday, April 16, 2017 at the Rehabilitation Center of South Georgia.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at Brookfield Baptist Church with Rev. Gary Cadwell and Rev. Randy Mosley officiating. Interment will follow at Tift Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6-8pm at Albritton Funeral Directors.

Gary Williams, John Rakestraw, Dan Rakestraw, Ernest Cordova, Jake Meeler, Johnny White, and Johnny Browning will serve as pallbearers. The Faithful ladies Sunday school class will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Mrs. Mathis was born on March 6, 1950 in Hahira to Dorothy Rowe Warwick of Nashville and the late Bennie Griner.  She was married to the late James Joseph Mathis, Jr. for thirty-four years. Mrs. Mathis was retired from the Department of Family and Children Services. She was a very active and dedicated member of Brookfield Baptist Church. Mrs. Mathis taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, church clerk, children’s leader and a dedicated volunteer. She also headed “Santa’s Helpers” in Tift county for many years and was the past president of the Tifton Junior Women’s Club. She enjoyed gardening and loved her cats.

In addition to her mother, Mrs. Mathis is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Ann Griner and Charles Williams of Nashville; one brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Emory “Zig” and Iris Mathis of Hahira; two aunts, Melba Weldon of Hahira and Charlotte Morris of Florida; one nephew, Todd Williams of Jacksonville, FL; one niece, Jennifer and Jake Meeler of Nashville; one brother-in-law, David Mathis of Brookfield and many cousins.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Mathis was preceded in death by her stepfather, Ed Warwick, her sister Lynn Godwin and her niece Jessica Williams.

In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to Hospice of Tift Area, P.O. Box 747 Tifton, Georgia 31793.
