Mr. Orris L. Hobby, 95, of Tifton, passed away Thursday, June 25, 2020 at his residence.
A private graveside service will be held Saturday, June 27, 2020 at Zion Hope Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Tim Henry officiating.
Pallbearers: Matthew Hobby, Bennie Branch, Joe Hester, Justin Griffin, Jordan Browning, Jakob Dorsey, Dale Delk, Jason Guess.
Mr. Hobby was born August 8, 1924 in Crosland, Georgia to the late Jesse Clarence Hobby and Rena Hall Hobby. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by seven sisters, three brothers and first wife and the mother of his children, Juanita DuBose Hobby who died July 12, 2002, to whom he was married for fifty-eight years, also one grandson.
Mr. Hobby worked many years at Armour and Company in Tifton until it closed. He retired as the parts manager from Kennon Tractor Company in Tifton. Mr. Hobby was known for his kind and gentle spirit to all who knew him. He was a member of Independent Worship Center, Tifton, GA., but he was a founding member of Tifton’s First Assembly of God where he served as a deacon for many years.
Following his retirement, many in the farming community depended on Mr. Hobby for repair of their pumps. When he wasn’t working on pumps, he was often off camping at his favorite places in Mountain Lakes Resort, Cleveland, GA or Eufaula, AL, with a fishing line dipped in the water.
He was known to his “Doozies” and grandsons as Papa, his great grands as Big Papa, and Mr. O and Papa O to others who loved him.
Mr. Hobby is survived by his wife, Mattiann Eason Weldon Hobby. He is also survived by his three sons and their wives: Bobby (Rhonda) Hobby, Tifton, GA; Randy (Susan) Hobby, Foothill Ranch, CA; and Ricky (Donna) Hobby, Tifton, GA; his step-children: Harriet Weldon Felts, Mauk, GA; Leesa Best Walker, Enigma, GA; Jeena (Joe) Hester, Tifton, GA. He is also survived by grandchildren; Matthew (Sarah) Hobby, Tifton, GA, Dina (Bennie) Branch, Tifton, GA and Joye Hobby Ellis, Tifton, GA, Petrina Sauer, Riverside, CA, Sean (Shannon) Johnson, Enigma, GA, Tara (Ben) Adams, McRae, GA, Jayla (Chris) Bryant, Tifton, GA, Justin (Kim) Griffin, Columbus, GA, Jordan (Samantha) Browning, Cataula, GA. His great grandchildren will also fondly remember their Big Papa’s funny words/sayings: Ben (Katie) Branch, Annabelle Branch, Celiabeth Branch, Smith Hobby, Reese Hobby, Trevor (Kelly) Robinson, Tyler Robinson. He enjoyed meeting his great great granddaughter, Brooklyn Robinson, at Thanksgiving.
