Opal Fennelle Morris, 90, of Tifton passed away on Friday, March 30, 2018 at Maple Court Assisted Living Center.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 4 at 2:00 p.m. in First United Methodist Church with Rev. Benji Varnell and Rev. Ike Branch officiating. A private interment will be held at a later date. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening April 3 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The honorary escort will be the staff of Maple Court Assisted Living.
Mrs. Morris was born December 12, 1927 in Soperton, Georgia to the late Johnnie W. Fennelle and Jessie Williams Fennelle. She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Leonard Morris, Sr., to whom she was married for almost sixty years. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Morris was preceded in death by one son, John Thomas Morris and one sister, Regis Fennelle Coker. Mrs. Morris was a member of First United Methodist Church of Tifton. She was very active in her church where she taught Sunday School and Methodist Women’s Study Groups, was a member of Covenant SS Class, and was President of Methodist Women at the local and district level. After graduation from Tifton High School, Miss Opal and her dear friend, Dr. Rosemary Johnson taught school in a one room school house in Brookfield, Georgia. Afterwards, Mrs. Morris moved to Greenwood, South Carolina to pursue her college education. After graduating from Lander College in Greenwood, South Carolina with a B.S. in history, she returned to Tifton and taught history at Tifton High School. Mrs. Morris was devoted to her family and loved her grandchildren.
Mrs. Morris is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Francis Leonard “Chip” Morris, Jr. and Donna Morris of Tifton; four grandchildren, Francis Leonard “Tripp” Morris, III, Rachel Lynn Morris, Evan Alexander Morris and John Thomas Morris, Jr.; one great grandchild, Jayden Morris; one sister, Gail Fennelle Holley of Ware Shoals, South Carolina.
The family would like to thank the Staff of Maple Court Assisted Living for their outstanding care, love and devotion to Miss Opal and her family.
