Myranell Conley Thompson, 71, of Chula died Friday, January 27, 2017 at her residence.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Monday, January 30, 2017 at Albritton Funeral Directors with Dr. Wayne Roe, Dr. Fred Evers and Tommy Nalls officiating. Interment will follow at Oakridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 29, 2017 from 6-8 pm at the funeral home.
Mrs. Thompson’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Frank Bodiford Sunday School Class of Northside Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Mrs. Thompson was born in Tift County on November 10, 1945 to the late John James Conley and Nora Mae Burch Conley. She graduated from Tift County High School in 1963, attended ABAC, and she received her Bachelor’s degree from Georgia Southern University and her Master’s and Teachers Specialist degrees from Valdosta State University. In 1969 she received the Career Woman of the Year Award from Tift County. She began playing the piano in 7th grade and as an excellent musician she continued to serve churches by playing the piano and organ for 47 years. Mrs. Thompson also retired from teaching after forty and a half years. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church of Tifton. Mrs. Thompson enjoyed working crossword puzzles, traveling to the ocean and tending to her house plants. She was married to C.R. Thompson for forty seven years and she loved her family.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Thompson is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Tamara and Carl Parlor of Hazelhurst and Alex and Sam Knight of Sharpsburg, GA; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Chesley and Stephanie Thompson of Perry, Michael Thompson of Tifton and Chris Thompson of Tifton; one sister, Carol Walker of Tifton; one brother, John James Conley, Jr. of Tifton; seventeen grandchildren, Matthew Parlor, Zachery Parlor, Karlyn Grace Parlor, Thomas Knight, Mary Claire Knight, Will Knight, Chesley Thompson, Breanna Richardson, Alex Pate, Andrew Pate, Sarah Pate, Michael Thompson, Chase Thompson, Channing Thompson, Chandler Thompson, Kayla Herndon, and Brittany Morgan; and five great grandchildren.
Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by two brothers, Malcom Wendell Conley and Michael Conley and one brother-in-law, Gene Walker.
Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge, 1552 Shoup Court, Decatur, GA 30023.
