Melvin Eugene Barton

Melvin Eugene Barton, 80, died Monday, May 16, 2016 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel at Albritton Funeral Directors with the Rev. David Barton and Elder Gaston E Barton officiating. Interment will follow at Spring Hill Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 P.M. until 1:30 P.M. on Saturday before the service.

Mr. Barton was born August 16, 1935 to the late Robert Elton and Nora Mae Davis Barton in Wilcox County.

Mr. Barton was a graduate of Wilcox County High School in 1953 and was employed for many years as an insurance agent with Life of Georgia.  He was a member of Springhill Primitive Baptist Church in Sparks, Georgia. Mr. Barton lived in Tifton for 5 years and he loved classic cars, working in his yard and  playing the guitar. He was a very simple man who loved his family dearly.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Barton was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Jean Miley Barton, and his son Ricky Lavon Barton.

Mr. Barton is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Faith Mechelle and Dr. Al Warren of Gray, his three sons and daughter-in-law, Robert and Sandra Barton of Warwick, Ryan and Hannah Barton of Cordele and Randall Lee Barton and his fiance and Mr. Melvin's caretaker, Tammy Coppage of Tifton; two brothers, Rev. David Barton of Rochelle and Elder Gaston E. Barton of Tifton, and his grandchildren Kayla Warren Chandler, Kristen Warren, Kaitlyn Warren, Konner Warren,  David Lee Barton and Devon Barton.
