Mary Ann Bar-or, a beloved teacher and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully February 22, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on January 6, 1937, in Irwin County, Georgia, Mary Ann dedicated her life to education and touched the hearts of many during her career.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00PM on Monday, February 24, 2025 at Turner Church Cemetery with Rev. John Falotico officiating.
Charles Dobbie Allen, Ethan Russell Allen, Christopher Gauge Allen, Donnie Pearson, Tommy King, Gilbert Perez and Keith Cannon will serve as pallbearers.
A graduate of Berrien County High School and Georgia Southern College, Mary Ann retired from Berrien County Elementary School after many years of nurturing young minds and instilling a love of learning in her students. Her passion for teaching was one of her proudest accomplishments, and she left a lasting legacy through the lives she influenced.
Mary Ann had a zest for life that extended beyond the classroom. She found joy in simple pleasures such as fishing, tending to her garden, and shopping. Her vibrant personality and generous spirit made her a beloved friend and family member.
Mary Ann is survived by her son, Ethan Allen of Enigma; her grandchildren, Keelie Woodard, Ethan Russell Allen, Charles Dobbie Allen, Christopher Gauge Allen, Michelle Grinel, Kathy Sweat, and James Quincy Allen; and twelve great-grandchildren who brought her immense joy.
She was preceded in death by her father, Quincy Barnes; her mother, Mary Swails Barnes; her son, Morris Quincy Allen; her husband, Morris Eugene Allen; her brother, Rufus Barnes; and her sister, Geneva Wilson. Each of them held a special place in her heart and will be dearly missed.
Mary Ann Bar-or’s contributions to her family, friends, and the educational community will always be remembered. Her legacy of love, kindness, and dedication will continue to inspire those who knew her.
