Marvin Dewey Messex, Sr.

Mr. Marvin Dewey Messex, Sr., 85, of Tifton passed away on Thursday, May 5, 2022, at South Georgia Medical Center.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at Oakridge Cemetery with Dr. Wayne Roe officiating.The family will receive friends Monday, May 9, 2022 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Albritton Funeral Directors.

Mr. Messex was born October 9, 1936 in Jenkins County to the late Johnnie Hudson Messex and Ruby Addlaid Hargrove. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Ann Whitaker Messex who died April 17, 2005 and his brothers, Johnnie Lee Messex, Jimmy Messex, and Tannie Wade Messex and his sister Lula Bell Dixon. Mr. Messex was a member of First Baptist Church of Tifton. He was retired from Union Camp/International Paper Company. Mr. Messex was a veteran of the Army National Guard. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, walking and spending time with family and friends. He was very active in his church, assisting in delivering meals on Wednesday. He was a kind, gentle and caring man. Mr. Messex loved his family, especially all of his grandchildren.

Mr. Messex is survived by his son, Marvin D. Messex, Jr. of Tifton; his daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Tim Harnage of Tifton and Kim and Mark Pearson of Valdosta; his grandchildren, Ashley Watson, Kayla Harnage, Dustin Messex, Brent Messex, Sarah Pearson, Matthew Pearson, William Pearson and Anna Kate Pearson; his great grandchildren, Aden, Gracie, Rylee, Maya, Gabi and Braylee;; his sisters, Mamie Lou Godbee of Ocala, Florida, Mary Goodale of Ruffin, South Carolina, Julia and Wade Ferguson of Hampton, South Carolina and Grace Mobley of Millen, Georgia
