Margaret Lucille Chapman Carter, 87, of Omega passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at Golden Apple Nursing Home in Moultrie.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 2nd at 4:00 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church, Omega, Ga., with Rev. Dudley Cook officiating. Eulogy to be given by Jennifer J. Bennett. Interment to follow in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening, March 1st from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Jacob Bennett, Justin Turner, Kim Turner, Mark Turner, Don Willis and Ricky Willis. Honorary pallbearers will be Adult Sunday School Class of Bethel Baptist Church.
Mrs. Carter was born December 24, 1930 in Tift County to the late J. M. Chapman and Thelma Smith Chapman Bowen. She was raised by her mother and step father, W. A. Bowen. Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by her husband of sixty years, William Charles Carter, Sr., parents, step father, brothers, James C. Chapman and wife, Frances, Tom Chapman and wife, Carolee; sister, Nellie C. Davis and husband, Walter; great grandson, Daniel Charles Bennett. She was a faithful member of Bethel Baptist Church and former member of Macedonia Baptist Church, Chula, Ga. Mrs. Carter worked as a bookkeeper for Johnson Oil Company, then went to Riddle and Slack Lumber Company, after if burned she worked as Deputy Clerk for Tift County Commissioners Office retiring after twenty-two years. She was elected to Tift County Commissioner for District #3 in 1998. She loved the Lord, her family, cooking and working in her yard. She was kind and giving to others and always had smile on her face.
Mrs. Carter is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, William (Bill) Charles Carter, Jr and Cheryl of Hahira; one daughter and son-in-law, June C. and Harold Bennett of Omega; grandchildren, Marty and Cindi Bennett, Jennifer June Bennett of Omega and Jodi and Heath Griner of Hahira; great grandchildren, Jacob, Jillian and Samantha Bennett of Omega, Emma and Liam Griner of Hahira and Carter Schwalls of Norman Park.
The family would like to thank Colquitt Regional Hospice and Hospice of Tift Area for their loving care during her illness.
