Lilly Ethelle McKellar, beloved sister, aunt, and dedicated member of the community, passed away on June 22, 2024 at Maple Court Senior Care in Tifton Georgia.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 on Monday, June 24, 2024 at New Hope Baptist Church in Sumner, Georgia with Dr. Danny Ray officiating. Interment will follow at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 10:50 at the church prior to the service.
Lee McKellar, Hunt McKellar, Burt McKellar, Keith Smith, Stan Wood, and Chris Zorn will serve as pallbearers. Rayford Saunders, George Owens, Berry McKellar, and Jerry McKellar will serve as honorary pallbearers.
She was born on August 12, 1939, in Worth County, Georgia. Lilly will be fondly remembered for her unwavering dedication to her family, friends, and work.
In her early years, Lilly showcased her leadership qualities as the captain of the basketball team at Sumner High School. After graduating from Sumner High School in 1957, she embarked on a successful career with Kwik Chek Grocery Company, which was later acquired by Winn Dixie. Her dedication and hard work led her to become the store manager at Winn Dixie Supermarket for an impressive thirty-four years.
Beyond her professional achievements, Lilly had a zest for life and a wide range of interests. She found joy in clogging, dancing, and exploring new destinations through travel and cruises. One of her greatest passions was cooking and baking delicious treats for her loved ones. She especially enjoyed canning pickles, figs, tomatoes, and fruit preserves to share with family and friends.
Lilly's proudest accomplishment was being a faithful member of New Hope Baptist Church in Worth County, Georgia. Her strong faith was evident in all aspects of her life.
She is preceded in death by her parents Alander Lee McKellar and Lela Ethelle Webb McKellar; her brothers Joseph Henderson McKellar II and Floyd Stanley McKellar; and her sister Mary Lee McKellar Kincaid. Lilly is survived by her loving sister Sandra Faye McKellar Holweger of Tifton, as well as numerous nieces and nephews whom she cherished dearly.
Lilly Ethelle McKellar's presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her kindness, generosity, and dedication leave a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire those whose lives she touched. May she rest in peace knowing she made a significant impact on those around her.
