Kermit Malcolm Gentry, Sr.

July 7, 1929 — October 8, 2020

Mr. Kermit Malcolm “Mr. B. J.” Gentry, Sr., 91, of Sycamore passed away on Thursday, October 8, 2020 at Tift Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, October 11, 2020 at 2:00 P.M. at Waterloo Baptist Church with Dr. Jeff Pangle and Rev. Preston Mixon officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 1:45 P.M. at the church before the service. Interment will follow in Waterloo Baptist Church Cemetery.

Rodney Gentry, Aaron Gentry, Tyler Giddens, Chancy Allen, Nathan Vice and Alex Kennedy will serve as pallbearers.

Mr. Gentry was born July 7, 1929 in Bartow County, Georgia to the late Tristam Gentry and Rillie Katherine King Gentry. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Joyce Sidwell Gentry who died October 22, 2014 and for whom they had been married for sixty-two years and his brother, Colin Gentry. Mr. Gentry was a member of Waterloo Baptist Church and was a farmer. He was former owner and operator of B. J. Produce on Highway 41 South in Tifton where he was known as “Mr. B. J.”. Mr. Kermit loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing and was an excellent marksman. He loved his garden and enjoyed growing things for his family and friends. Mr. Gentry loved to attend Waterloo Baptist Church and was proud to be from the Waterloo Community. He was a licensed airplane pilot. He was an excellent provider and his family was the center of his life. He loved spoiling his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mr. Kermit was a veteran of the United States Army serving in Korea.

Mr. Gentry is survived by his son, Kerry Gentry of Ashburn; his two daughters, Joy Gentry and Fonda Lynn Gentry both of Ashburn; Rodney Gentry was his first grandson and Mr. Kermit raised him as a son; his grandchildren, Amanda and Jesse Streat, Kim and Chancy Allen, Aaron and Tami-Ann Gentry, Rodney and Kayla Gentry, Tristam and Tyler Giddens; his great grandchildren, Nathan Vice, Hannah Vice, Colton Allen, Bryson Allen, Cameron Gentry, Conner Gentry, Sydney Gentry, Dalton Gentry and Zeke Gentry; his sister and brother-in-law, Audrey and Richard Case of Tifton and one brother and sister-in-law, Doug and Donna Gentry of Reading, PA.

Flowers accepted or donations may be made to Waterloo Baptist Church Building Fund, 124 Waterloo Church Lane, Chula, Ga. 31733.
