Kathy Elizabeth Sumner Moran, born on December 13, 1954, in Tifton, Georgia, peacefully departed this life on February 1, 2025, at Pruitt Health Sunrise Nursing Home in Moultrie. A devoted nurse, loving mother, and proud grandmother, Kathy’s impact will be forever felt by those who knew and loved her.

Kathy dedicated more than forty years to the nursing profession, a career she approached with unwavering commitment, strength, and compassion. She spent over twenty-five years at Tift Regional Medical Center before concluding her career at South Georgia Regional Hospital in Statesboro. Trauma nursing was her passion—a calling that requires resilience, quick thinking, and an unshakable heart. She embraced every challenge, cared for her patients with fierce dedication, and served as a mentor and role model for many in the medical field.

Her educational journey began at Tift County High School and continued at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, where she earned her associate’s degree in nursing. Kathy’s work ethic was unparalleled, a quality she instilled in her children, Johnna and John David, both of whom embody her spirit of service and kindness.

Beyond her career, Kathy’s greatest joy was her family. She had a deep and abiding love for her children and grandchildren, always making them feel cherished and celebrated. Though distance sometimes kept them apart, her love knew no bounds. She adored her granddaughters—Anna Beth, Sadie, and Lydia—showering them with love, praise, and the frilliest, fanciest dresses money could buy. Nothing made her happier than seeing them shine.

To those lucky enough to be part of her life, Kathy was more than just a nurse, mother, or grandmother—she was a source of unwavering support, fierce love, and warm-hearted generosity. She had a way of making everyone feel special, and her presence brought comfort and reassurance to those around her. From family gatherings filled with laughter to the thoughtful gifts she gave with love, Kathy’s legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew her best.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Johnna and Bryan Bridges, her son and daughter-in-law, John David and Terri H. Johnson, and her beloved grandchildren: Anna Beth Bridges, Sadie Bridges, and Lydia Johnson. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Gary Farmer, as well as her brother and sister-in-law, Ronnie and Becky Sumner.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James E. Sumner, Jr. and June Evelyn Busbin Sumner.

Kathy’s love, kindness, and strength will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held on February 4, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Macedonia Baptist Church in Chula, Georgia, with Rev. Corey Thompson officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, February 3, 2025 at Albritton Funeral Directors from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M.
