Mrs. Juanita Patton “Pat” Doss, 89 of Tifton, passed away on Tuesday, September 11, 2019 at Tift Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 14 at 3:00 P.M. in First United Methodist Church of Tifton, with Reverend Chip Grantham officiating. Interment will follow at Oakridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 13 from 5:00–7:00 P.M. at Albritton Funeral Directors.
Gibbs Patrick, Jr., Shelby Baker, Eddie Sklany, Dick Kitchens, Tom Hunt and Dickie Crosby will serve as pallbearers. The Beacon Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Pat was born on May 17, 1930 in Tifton to the late Charles Edwin Patton and Elizabeth Matthews Hamilton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Dr. Charles E. “Jack” Patton.
Her early childhood was spent in Tifton, but her family later moved to Hollywood, California where she graduated from high school. She raised her six children as a full-time mother. During the 1960’s and 70’s, she worked in computer programing. In 1982, she completed her Bachelor of Science degree in business administration, and pursued a career in nursing home administration. For many years, she served as the executive secretary to the Chief Of Surgery at Emory University. In 1997, she moved back to Tifton where she was active in the Garden Club, volunteered as a Pink Lady and worked with Meals on Wheels. She was an award-winning gardener.
Mrs. Doss was a member of First United Methodist Church in Tifton. She cherished her circle of women friends from her church and served as the Beacon Sunday School Class Teacher. As a Bible scholar, she constantly pursued a deeper knowledge of the Word, and even made a trip to Israel during her studies.
Mrs. Pat is survived by her four daughters and two sons-in-law, Rebecca and Bill Phillips of Ewell, Maryland, Nancy Lane of Valdosta, Carol Keller of Decatur, GA and Anne and John Herring of Leesburg, VA; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Chris and Janice Doss of Oak Hill, FL and Robert Doss of Jacksonville, FL; five granddaughters Maura Lane, Jenna Doss, Grey Keller, Emily Galusha and Emma Basaraba; one grandson Matthew Herring and one great-granddaughter Rheanna Galusha.
