Mr. John Clinton “Sonny” Edmonson, Jr., 88, of Tifton, passed away on Sunday, October 4, 2020 at Tift Regional Medical Center.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at 2:00 P.M. in Oak Ridge Cemetery with full military honors. The Rev.Tim Morgan will officiate. Mrs. Edmonson will receive friends at the cemetery following the service.
Mr. Edmonson was born July 29, 1932 in Moultrie, Georgia to the late John Clinton Edmonson, Sr., and Margaret Myers Edmonson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, John William “Buddy” Edmonson who died in 1974; his mother and father-in-law, Lott and Celestia Cromer Clyatt and his brother-in-law, Charles Clyatt. Mr. Edmonson was a member of Inaha Baptist Church and was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He had lived in Tifton all of his life and graduated from Tifton High School. Mr. Edmonson was a Mason and served as Worshipful Master in the Tifton Lodge. He refereed Georgia High School Football for twenty-five years. Mr. Sonny loved his family, was a good provider and was a man of faith. Mr. Edmonson loved the outdoors and enjoyed playing golf. After their retirement he and Miss Betty enjoyed traveling.
Mr. Edmonson is survived by his wife, Betty Jean Clyatt of Tifton to whom he was married for sixty-nine years. They were married in 1951.
Mrs. Edmonson wishes to especially thank Patsy Markham, Luann Frampton and Mary Beaumont for their attention during Mr. Sonny’s illness. She also sincerely appreciates the members of Inaha Baptist Church for their continued prayers and assistance.
