Mr. John Rufus “Bunchie” Evans, 92, of TyTy, passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2022, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, December 29, 2022 at First Baptist Church of TyTy with Rev. Landon Alberson officiating. Interment will follow at First Baptist Church of TyTy Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 1:00 to 1:45 P.M. at the church before the service. Military honors will be rendered at graveside.
Jason Evans, Ethan Bradshaw, Evan Bradshaw, Buck Bradshaw, Dustin Gibson and Justin Evans will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Perry Conger, Ken Hall, Sr., Henry Boyette, Mike Hunt, Rev. Shane Suggs and Richard Brown.
Mr. Evans was born September 7, 1930 in Worth County to the late Marcus Harris Evans, Sr. and Maxie Glee Walea Evans. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Jean Parks Evans, his daughter, Julie Stidham and one brother, James Madison Evans. Mr. Evans was a member of First Baptist Church of TyTy and was a veteran of the United States Army. He graduated from Tifton High School and attended Little Emory Business School of Valdosta. After graduation he worked with his Dad at Evans Plant Company and later co-owned Dixie Turf Farms. Mr. Evans loved to deer hunt, watch college football, westerns, outdoor shows and he was a gun enthusiast. One of his favorite past times was having coffee with his buddies.
Mr. Evans is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Derry Hewett of TyTy; his son and daughter-in-law, Marcus and Rhonda Evans of Omega; one brother, Marcus Harris Evans, Jr., of Texas; his grandchildren, Miga Batten, Suzanne Bradshaw, Sarah Marteen, Heather Hewett, Cari Gibson, Jason Evans and Justin Evans; eight great grandchildren.
