James Curtis Day

Mr. James Curtis Day, 77, of Dadeville, Alabama formerly of Tifton passed away on Saturday, October 10, 2020 at Russell Medical Center in Alexander City, Alabama.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at 3:00 P.M. in Tift Memorial Gardens with Rev. Jimmy Cargle officiating.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:30 P.M. on Wednesday at the funeral home before the service.

Cody Winslett, Jake Winslett, Darryl Sims, Grant Sims, Wilt Jones and Leon Pate will serve as pallbearers.

Mr. Day was born October 25, 1942 in Irwin County to the late Carl Thomas Day and Willie Blanche Spradlin Day. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, George and Margaret Day and his sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and J. W. Pate. Mr. Day was a veteran of the United States Army and was retired from USDA after forty-five years working in animal science.  He grew up on a farm in Irwin County and later entered the United States Army in 1966. Soon after he returned, he began his career with the USDA in Tifton doing animal science research. In 1980 he and his family were transferred with the USDA to Auburn University where he retired in September of 2016. Mr. Curtis loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He enjoyed raising animals and loved horse and longhorn cattle. Mr. Day loved his family and was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He never met a stranger and was a very giving person.

Mr. Day is survived by his wife, JoAnn Pate Day of Dadeville, Alabama to whom he was married for fifty-two years; his daughter and son-in-law, Rayna and Grant Sims of Alexander City; four grandchildren, Cody James Winslett, Jake Paten Winslett, Darryl Lynn Sims and Tiffany Ann Sims; two sisters, Louise Manning of Jonesboro and Jane Myrtis Howard of Tifton; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Lawrence and Joyce Ann Day of Chula, Fred and Melva Day of Cordele and Robert and Donna Day of Griffin.
