James Eugene "Gene" Garren

January 22, 1935 — April 19, 2019

James Eugene “Gene” Garren of Ray City, 84, passed away on Friday, April 19, 2019 at Cook Senior Living Center.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 22, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Albritton Funeral Directors with Pastor Junior Clayton and Pastor Derrick Jackson officiating. Interment will follow in Lawrence Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home before the service.

Sons, grandsons, nephews and cousins will serve as pallbearers.

Mr. Garren was born January 22, 1935 in Berrien County to the late James Thomas Garren and Lucy Mae Walker Garren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two children, James Marty Garren and Sherry Garren Croy; two brothers and one grandson Eric Gaines. He was married to Barbara Jean Garren of Ray City for twenty years. Mr. Garren was of Church of God faith. He worked for Tift County Road Department as a heavy machine operator before retiring. He loved to coon hunt, raise dogs and horses. He loved his family.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Melissa Kay Garren of Alapaha, Regina “Jeannie” and Jeff McAlister of Rockmart, Ga., Kim and Warren Paris of Bremen, Ga., Kelly Garren and fiancé Hilliard of Cartersville, Stacey and Lisa Garren of Cartersville, Crystal and Robby Craven of Nashville, Landa May Garren of Cuba, NY., Nicole and Christopher Scott of Statenville and Jessica Ann Garren and fiancé Steven Eubanks of  Chaserville; four brothers, Thomas “Hobo” and Norma Lee Garren, Russell “Tootsie” and Margie Garren, Charles “Frog” and Linda Garren all of Tifton, Frank Garren of Calhoun and his sister, Carolyn Faye “Biddie” Faulkner of Lenox; his stepchildren, Matthew and Melisa Luke Browning of Valdosta, Toshia Lynn Browning of Nashville, Brandi Browning of Ray City and Corey and Amanda Browning of Nashville; thirty-three grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren.

Albritton Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
