Mrs. Norma Jacquelin “Jackie” Pearce Jones, 87, of Tifton passed away on Wednesday February 19, 2020, at Cypress Pond Assisted Living Center.
Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of Albritton Funeral Directors on Sunday, February 23, 2020 at 3:00 P.M. with Dr. Fred Evers officiating. Interment will follow at Oakridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends before the service from 1:30 P.M. – 2:30 P.M.
The pallbearers will be Kevin Ray, Walter Kegley, Gary Hall, Billy Selph, Bill Daniell and Ron Hooks.
Mrs. Jones was born September 14, 1932, in Colquitt County, Georgia to the late B. C. Pearce and Effie Pearl Cordell Pearce. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Scarbor and Carolyn Pearce. Mrs. Jones was a member of Northside Baptist Church of Tifton for over fifty years. Before her illness, Mrs. Jones was very active in her church, where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, VBS and many Wednesday night activities. In 1957, she retired as an operator and supervisor from Southern Bell Telephone company, after that she worked as a substitute teacher for Northside Elementary School in Tifton. From 1972 to 1997, she worked as a kindergarten teacher for TCDI on Noah’s Ark. Mrs. Jones enjoyed visiting the nursing homes every Thursday delivering Bibles, gospel tracts and spreading the word of God to the patients for many years. She was an excellent cook and was known especially for her pies.
Mrs. Jones is survived by her husband of sixty-six years, Otis Herbert Jones, Jr. of Tifton to whom she married December 3, 1953; one son and daughter-in-law Marshall Gregory (Greg) and Patsy Jones of Kingsland, one daughter Charlotte Regina (Gina) Jones Richardson of Tifton; one sister Sandra Pearce Mercer of Omega; grandchildren, Timothy and Denise Jones of Jacksonville, Florida, Devae Richardson and Brent Saunders of Tifton, Taylor and Felicia Richardson of Tifton, great grandchildren, Luna Jones of Jacksonville, Florida, Hayden Hatfield of Tifton and Jones Richardson of Tifton along with many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members including her special cousin, Norma Boyd, close friends and caregivers.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Tift Area, PO Box 747, 618 N. Central Avenue, Tifton, Ga. 31794.
