Herman Elton Rowell, Jr., 68, of Tifton passed away on Monday, August 01, 2016 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 04, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Layfield and Rev. Matthew Rowell officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 03, 2016, 6:00-8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Johnny Ashe, Lee Phillips, Trent Pope, Trey Rowell, Clint Phillips and Charles Phillips will serve as pallbearers.
Mr. Rowell was born on July 27, 1948 in Irwin County to the late Herman Elton Sr., and Gertrude Dorminy Rowell.
Mr. Rowell served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. He was awarded two medals while in service, the Air Medal and the Bronze Star. He worked as a textile supervisor for Shaw Industries for many years. Mr. Rowell loved motorcycles, working on motors, raising goats and playing softball.
In addition to his wife of 22 years, Wanda Valeria Rowell, Mr. Rowell is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law; Violet and Steve Gillis of Abbeville, Wendy and Michael Woods of Tifton and Mandy and Trent Pope of Tifton, two sons and daughters-in-law; Herman Elton “Trey” III and Veleka Rowell of Irwinville, and Rev. Matthew and Amber Rowell of Wesley Chapel, Fla., four sisters; Catherine and Ron Coleman of Kennesaw, Linda Gibbs of TyTy, Ann Dale of Tifton, and Janet and Herb Fulghum of Sparks, and five grandchildren.
Mr. Rowell was preceded in death by his son, Michael Watson in 1997, his sister, Ruth Roberts, and his two brothers, Lamar Rowell and Kelly Rowell.
