Herbert C. "Herb" Garrick, Jr., a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather - passed away peacefully at his residence on December 12, 2023.
A Graveside service will be held on Friday, December 15, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. at Zion Hope Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Ricky Wells officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 P.M. to 1:30 P.M. at Albritton Funeral Directors before the service at the cemetery.
Mr. Garrick was born September 27, 1939 in Tift County to the late Herbert C. Garrick Sr., and Essie Taylor Garrick. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Joyce Johnson and Jane Garrick.
Herb is survived by his beloved wife of fifty years, Doris Ellen Hawkins Garrick. Together, they shared a love that withstood the test of time and served as an inspiration to all who witnessed their devotion. Herb's children, Mark Garrick of Enigma, Tony and Vickie Garrick of Omega, Tim and Paula Garrick of Savannah, Matt and Donalynn Garrick of Tifton, Wendy and Bill Dawson of Tifton, and Carlton and Kathy Flora of Stockbridge enriched Herb's life in countless ways. He took immense pride in his family and found great happiness in spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
As a devoted family man, Herb played an active role in their lives. His love extended beyond his own children to include thirteen grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to his heart. Herb was affectionately known as "pop" to his youngest family members and he treasured every moment spent with them.
Herb's kindhearted nature and warm personality left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him. Though he may have appeared gruff at times, those close to him understood that he was truly a teddy bear with a heart of gold. He possessed an incredible work ethic but always found solace working in the yards or taking leisurely walks with his cherished dog named "Tilly." In earlier years before illness struck him down with limitations, he had a passion for fishing.
Herb greeted everyone he met with endearing terms like "honey" and "sweetheart," especially women, making them feel instantly valued and seen. His genuine kindness and respect for others endeared him to the many lives he touched throughout his life. Family was at the core of Herb's being, and his love for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren knew no bounds.
After graduating from Tifton High School, his work career included working at Miller Brewing Company in Moultrie.
