Henry “Wayne” Harris, 89, born on February 15, 1935, in Irwin County, Georgia, passed away on April 25, 2024, at Maple Court Assisted Living Center in Tifton, Georgia. He was well-respected for his dedicated service and commitment throughout his life.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 P.M. on Monday, April 29, 2024 in the chapel of Albritton Funeral Directors with Rev. Stacy Phillips officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 3:45 P.M. at the funeral home before the service. Interment will follow at Tift Memorial Gardens where Military Honors will be rendered.
Freddie Harris, Tim Barfield, Mark Barfield, Lin Goggans, Jake Goggans and Jamey Betts will serve as pallbearers.
Wayne led a prestigious career as a member of the United States Government National Security Agency in Fort Meade, Maryland, where he served in the administration unit from 1963 to 1991. Prior to this role, he also honorably served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1963. His dedication to his country was unwavering and commendable.
Educated at Tifton High School, Wayne's thirst for knowledge and love for learning were evident throughout his life. Beyond his professional achievements, he contributed significantly to his community. He was a proud member of The Tift Regional Medical Center's Volunteer Red Coats Auxiliary from 1992 to 2015 and even served as the editor of the auxiliary newsletter. Additionally, he found solace and camaraderie at Northside Baptist Church, where he lent his voice to the senior adult choir for many years.
Wayne's proudest accomplishments were not limited to his professional and volunteer work but also extended to his family life. Wayne is survived by his loving daughter Kaylin Michelle of Glenwood, Maryland. He cherished his role as a grandfather to Amelia Eden Marsden, and Mitchell Harris Marsden.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Lawrence Harris, his parents, Henry Clayborn Harris and Ludie Beatrice Bryan Harris, his brother and sister-in-law, Clayborn and Betty Harris and his sisters, Jo Wiggins and Irma Scarborough.
Henry Wayne Harris will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of dedication, kindness, and service that will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace knowing that he made a significant impact on all those whose lives he touched.
