Grace Marie (Higgins) Gibson

Mrs. Grace Marie Gibson, 96, of Tifton, passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2020 at her residence.

A private funeral service will be held Saturday, June 20, 2020 at Ridge Avenue Church of Christ with Mr. Harold Chambers officiating. Interment to follow in Oakridge Cemetery at 4:15 P.M.

John Gibson, Johnny Orr, Hughes Orr, Brian Orr, Turner Orr and Grayson Lewis will serve as pallbearers.

Mrs. Gibson was born March 7, 1924 in Memphis, Tennessee to the late Grace Mae Brigance and her step father, the late Thomas H. Brigance. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Turner Gibson, her son, John Terry Gibson and her daughter, Marsha Gibson Orr. She graduated from Whitehaven Tennessee High School, where she met the love of her life Turner Gibson. After their marriage they lived in Whitehaven before moving to Atlanta, Georgia. Then in 1959 the family transferred to Tifton. Mrs. Gibson was employed by the Citizens Bank of Tifton for many years until retirement. She had many hobbies including reading, cookbooks and cooking. She loved to fish and grow pretty flowers. Marie loved her family. She was an active member of the Ridge Avenue Church of Christ since 1959.

Mrs. Gibson is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Derry Gibson of Tifton; one daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Danny Brock of Valdosta; eight grandchildren, John Gibson, Allison Gibson White, Brian Orr, Johnny Orr, Jacey Pittman, Camille Lewis, Alaina Lewis and Susanna Godwin; eighteen great grandchildren, her nephew, Phillip Higgins from Atlanta. Also, special friends, Joyce Bailey and Donna Littrell.
