Georgia Irene Cole Moody, 96, of Omega died on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at her residence.
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 2, 2016 at 3:00 P.M. at the Omega Baptist Church with Rev. Terrell Ruis officiating. The family will receive friends at the church before the service from 1:00 P.M. until 2:30 P.M. Interment will follow at Omega City Cemetery.
Steve Whittington, Andy Hornbuckle, Ernest Harris, Jimmy Holton, Ricky Baker, David Keith, Walt Young, James Hester, Larry Lamb and Tommy Hornbuckle Jr. will serve as pallbearers. The Omega Baptist Church Ladies Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Born on December 16, 1919, Mrs. Moody was the daughter of Rufus Jefferson Cole and Birdie Belle Bryan Cole. She spent most of her 96 years in Omega, Georgia where she was affectionately known by many as “Nanny”. Mrs. Moody was known for many things such as her peanut brittle and pimento cheese. She loved crossword puzzles, fishing, crocheting, and especially playing bingo with the members of the Omega Bingo Club. She was a member of Omega Baptist Church and at the time of her death was the oldest member of the church. She was formerly a clerk at Omega City Hall and co-owned Moody Printing Co. with her husband.
Mrs. Moody is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of seventy years, Ralph Terrell Moody; a son, Randall Moody of Fairhope Alabama; four sisters and five brothers.
Mrs. Moody is survived by her three daughters, Gloria Moody Harris (Roy) of Suwanee, Ga., Pam Moody Thompson (Melvin) of Tifton, Ga. , and Patty Cole of Mobile, Ala.; her sister, Sara Cole Wynn of Manchester, Ga.; sister-in-law, Catherine Cole of Hartsfield, Ga.; her niece, Helen Johnson Patrick of Omega, Ga.; her grandchildren, Terry Harris (Theresa) of Decatur, Ga. Eileen Syfert (Gary) of Duluth, Ga., Kim Barnett (Glynn) of Tucker, Ga., Debbie Moody Peterson of Albertville, Ala., Rodney Moody (Lisa) of Mobile, Ala., Denise Beacham (Stacey) of Moultrie, Ga., Kelly Williams (Keith) of Jefferson, Ga., Jennifer Broun (Michael) of Athens, Ga., Michelle Brown, Oscar Tomasich, and Genevieve Brooks (Jamie); twenty two great grandchildren and three great- great grandchildren.
