Elder Gaston Elton Barton, 85, of Tifton died Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held May 28, 2017 at 3:00 PM in the chapel of Albritton Funeral Directors with Rev. David Barton officiating. Interment will follow at Brushy Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Irwin county. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:30pm on Sunday before the service.
B.B. Ball, Lonnie Alan Sandiford, Jeffrey Sandiford, David Stewart, Lamar Stone, and Wayne Lamb will serve as pallbearers.
Elder Gaston was born on December 3, 1931 in Wilcox County to the late Robert Elton Barton and Nora Mae Davis Barton. He attended Abraham Baldwin Agriculture College receiving his Associates Degree, the University of Georgia receiving his Bachelor Degree and Mercer University receiving a Master’s Degree in Business Administration and Education. Elder Barton was married to Miriam Nash Barton for 20 years and was a Primitive Baptist minister for most of his life. He served as the minister of Springhill Primitive Baptist Church for thirty years and Brushy Creek Baptist Church for four years. He also was a member of Dakota Baptist Church in Ashburn. Elder Barton loved to hunt and fish, but most of all to serve the Lord.
In addition to his wife, Elder Barton is survived by his daughter-in-law, Michelle Stone Barton; his granddaughter, Morgan Galina Barton of Tifton, one brother and sister-in law, David and Gwen Barton of Rochelle, one step son, Jeffrey Alan and Debbie Sandiford of Ocilla, two step daughters, Jennifer and David Cosper of Valdosta and Jeanine S. Burton of Sylvester. He was preceded in death by his son Mark Barton, who died June 4, 2016 and a brother Melvin Barton who died May 16, 2016.
