1944 Gail 2025

Gail Elizabeth McCook Hogsten

July 27, 1944 — February 22, 2025

Tifton

In loving memory of Gail Elizabeth McCook Hogsten, born on July 27, 1944, in Tifton, Georgia and peacefully leaving this world on February 22, 2025, also in Tifton. Gail was a beacon of warmth and kindness, embraced by her family.

Throughout her life, she dedicated herself to the roles of a steadfast wife and nurturing mother. For several years, she worked as a secretary for Georgia Controls and Power around seven years, but chose the path of a homemaker, where she found her true joy. She built a loving home filled with laughter and was always happy and content in her own surroundings. Her unyielding spirit was evident in her cherished pastimes, notably her love for crocheting. A memory that endures among those who knew her is how she would craft toys with her own hands, carrying them in her purse to share with children in need of entertainment. This simple yet profound act of kindness exemplified her generous heart.

Gail's life was woven together with the love of her family. Her husband of forty-seven years, William Hogsten of Tifton, stood by her side, sharing in both the joys and challenges that life brought their way. Her daughter, Wendy Gamble, also of Tifton, along with her son, James Dudley Gamble of Tampa, FL, were additional sources of pride and joy. The legacy of her love continues through her grandchildren, Daniel Murray and Tabitha Murray, who will undoubtedly carry forward her spirit of creativity and generosity. Her brother, J. R. and  his wife Genie McCook, held a special place in her heart, offering support and companionship throughout her life’s journey.

Life led her down a path to unwavering dedication to her family. Notably, she was not a member of the military, yet her devotion to her husband, Bill, during his military career was steadfast. Following his retirement, the couple made the heartfelt decision to return to Tifton, living proudly on the family farm that held so many cherished memories.

Gail is preceded in death by her beloved parents, James Daniel and Dora Barnes McCook, her first husband Dudley Gamble, and her sister, Ferol McCook Deberry. Their absence is keenly felt, yet their memories remain a source of comfort and inspiration for those she leaves behind.

In a defining moment that encapsulated her life, Gail passed away with the love and support of her husband and daughter surrounding her, a testament to the strong family bonds she nurtured.
