Mr. Fred Stanley Chappell, 81, of Chula, passed away on Thursday, December 15, 2022 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 20, 2022 in the chapel of Albritton Funeral Directors with Rev. Rodney Chappell and Mr. James Hall officiating. Interment will follow at Tift Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday, December 19, 2020 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Albritton Funeral Directors. Military honors will be rendered at graveside.
Drew Kelley, Bowen Lader, McKinley Chappell, Colby Chappell, Bryant Davis and Colton Kelley will serve as pallbearers.
Mr. Chappell was born November 25, 1941 in Weaverville, North Carolina to the late John Lauger Chappell and Edress Cooper Chappell. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving on the USS Bryce Canyon and the Theodore E. Chandler. Mr. Chappell was the volunteer fire chief for the Chula volunteer fire department. He was retired from Short and Paulk Supply Company and had formerly worked for Roddenberry’s Hardware, Tift County Civil Defense, Loblolly Lumber and Hasty’s Communications. He was a member of Chula United Methodist Church and a former member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He coached Little League football and baseball for several years and enjoyed it with his kids. Mr. Chappell enjoyed reading western books, wood working and he could build anything.
Mr. Chappell is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Brenda Sumner Chappell of Chula; his daughter and son-in-law, Belinda and Tom Coleman; his son and daughter-in-law, Ferrell and Lindsey Chappell; his grandchildren, Melissa and Drew Kelley, Courtney Coleman (Bowen Lader), McKinley Chappell, Colby Chappell, Bryant Davis; his great grandchildren, Colton and Thomas Kelley; his brother, Randall Chappell of Wrightsville, Georgia; his sister, Ellen Braswell of Valdosta; nieces, Cynthia Coats, Beth Dasher, Becky Braswell and Kanawha Phillips; his nephew, Doug Chappell. He is also survived by several great nieces and nephews.
