Mrs. Evelyn Louise Harrell Greer, 92 of Tifton, passed away at Legacy Village Assisted Living Center on Saturday, February 1, 2020.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 2020, at 11:00 A.M. in Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Aaron Frasier, Rev. Larry Layfield and Rev. Rocky Carrington officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, February 3, 2020, at the funeral home from 6:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M.
Her grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The honorary pallbearers will be the ladies of the Adult 3 Sunday School class and the caregivers from Legacy Village.
She was born on October 3, 1927, in Mitchell County and she was the daughter of the late Robert Harrell and Nancy Glover Harrell. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by and her husband of fifty-seven years, Mr. James W. Greer, who died September 5, 2003, four brothers, three sisters, her son-in-law, Ronnie Dillard and granddaughter, Beverly Carter.
After Mrs. Greer graduated from high school in 1944 in Mount Pleasant, she attended Business School. She and her husband owned Greer’s Grocery at Sunsweet for twenty-two years. She was also a homemaker, who loved being a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. In her earlier years when she was healthy, she was very active in her church, Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Chula. She brought her children up in church and in a Christian home. She loved reading, studying her Bible and teaching Sunday School.
She is survived by children, Dennis and Patricia Greer of Tifton, Roger and Sandy Greer of Fuquay-Varina, NC , Diane Dillard of Ty Ty and Donna and Sammy Conway of Tifton along with a multitude of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 293 Mt. Zion Church Road, Chula, Georgia 31733 or Tifton Gideon Camp, Tifton, Georgia 31793.
The family would like to thank the staff of Legacy Village Assisted Living for their wonderful loving care during her stay there. They would also like to thank Homestead Hospice for being so attentive during her last days along with her granddaughters Melanie McIntosh and Michele Bell-Peppers who helped with her care.
