Emory Clarence McMillan

April 14, 1922 — August 3, 2017

Emory Clarence McMillan, 95, of Tifton passed away Thursday, August 3, 2017, at his residence.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M., Sunday, August 6th in the Chapel of Albritton Funeral Directors with Rev. John Hughes, Rev. Dan Eidson and eulogy by Bob Williams.   Interment will follow at Oakridge Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Saturday afternoon from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home

Pallbearers will be the staff of Albritton Funeral Directors.  Honorary pallbearers will be the Tift Regional Medical Center Auxiliary.

Mr. McMillan was born in Atkinson County to the late Jeff Ira McMillan and Annis Alloura Arnold McMillan on April 14, 1922. He graduated from Tifton High School in 1938 and later graduated from the former Macon Business College.  Mr. McMillan served in the United States Navy for 6 years (1940-1946) during WWII. He was married to Lillian Helen Cooksey McMillan who passed away December 15, 1977. Tifton had been his home since 1936.

Mr. McMillan worked for the U.S. Postal Service from 1951-1977 and ABAC from 1951 until 1987, where he retired as the Assistant Comptroller. Upon his retirement from ABAC, Mr. McMillan worked as a consultant for several different colleges in the University System of Georgia including Valdosta State University, Macon Jr. College, Brewton Parker and Middle Georgia College. He served as a volunteer for Tift Regional Medical Center Auxiliary since 1988 and was on the staff of Albritton Funeral Directors, where he was an integral part of helping families in their time of distress.

Mr. McMillan was a true southern gentleman who cared about people and many times helped those in need anonymously.  He was a former deacon and the treasurer of First Baptist Church of Tifton, where he was a member since 1952. He delivered Meals on Wheels from the late 1980’s until 2014 and washed Wednesday night supper dishes at the church for forty years.

Mr. McMillan is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Emory Phillips “Flip” McMillan of Eau Gallie, FL, Richard Leslie “Dickie” and Genie Moore McMillan of Macon and Jeff Russell and Jasmine Ross McMillan of Tifton; one daughter, Kyle McMillan Smith of Tifton; his grandchildren, Laura McMillan, Haley and Chris Borders, Pate McMillan and Jessica and James Drawdy; and seven great grandchildren.  Mr. McMillan was preceded in death by four sisters, including one still born sister, and one brother.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Tifton Meals on Wheels P.O. Box 2053 Tifton, Georgia 31793 . The family also wishes to thank his friends and caregivers Diane Miller, Brenda Miller, Willie Mae Horton and the staff of Hospice of Tift Area.
