Tifton – Mr. Edward Roy Hintermeier of Tifton, 93, formerly of Macon died Saturday, February 27, 2016 at Agape Health and Rehab in Moultrie.
A graveside service will be held at Macon Memorial Park Cemetery on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. with military honors.
Mr. Hintermeier was born June 6, 1922 in Buffalo, New York to the late Edward George Hintermeier and Bertha Marqurdt Hintermeier. He was also preceded in death by his son-in-law former Tifton Mayor Paul Oneal Johnson.
Mr. Hintermeier was a WWII veteran of the United States Army-Air Force where he was awarded the Victory Medal, Good Conduct and American Service Medals. He was a professional photographer in Macon and owned the Hintermeier – Utley Studio where he made many high school pictures during the years. He also worked with Service Merchandise Store, Macon, in the camera department. While living in Macon he was a member of the American Legion Post # 3 where he served as the post secretary and adjutant. In Tifton he was a member of the American Legion Post # 21. He was a graduate of the Army-Air Force Technical School, Baker and Cook School in Miami, FL, and Emerson Vocational High School in Buffalo, NY.
He was survived by his wife of 45 years, Lois Evelyn Smith Hintermeier, two daughters and a son- in -law, Patricia Johnson, Tifton, and Deborah and John Groves, Boling Broke, and son- and -daughter in law Larry and Judy Thames, Charleston, South Carolina, eight grandchildren, Thomas Sidney Renfroe, III and Linda, Matthew Earl Renfroe and April, Alfred Michael Eller and Rachel, Adam Peyton Eller, William Earl Thames, Shannon Elizabeth and Ray Thompkins, Katherine Melissa Hodges, and Randall Lawrence Thames. A number of great grandchildren also survive.
