Dr. William Denton King, 76, passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2019 at his residence.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 2, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Albritton Funeral Directors with Dr. Lee Edmondson and Dr. Jim Gowen delivering the eulogies. A private family interment will be held at a later date.
Dr. King was born November 8, 1942 in Blount County, Alabama to Mrs. Edith Mae Edwards King of Sardis City, Alabama and the late Ulas Denton King. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Ann Brown King who died February 16, 1995. The King family moved to Tifton in 1975 where he practiced medicine for twenty-five years. Dr. King was a member of First United Methodist Church of Tifton. He graduated from The University of Georgia in 1964 with a Bachelors degree in Biology and graduated from The Medical College of Georgia in 1968. He was a Board-Certified OB/GYN with a specialty in Endocrinology and Infertility. He served as a captain and flight surgeon in the United States Air Force. He was an avid cyclist and outdoorsman who was fond of nature and animals. Dr. King loved his family and was a doting grandfather.
Dr. King is survived by two daughters and son-in-law, Jennifer and Trey Doonan of Newnan, Dr. Jessica King of Tifton; one son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Jeffrey and Paula Whitfield King of Silver Spring, Maryland; two grandchildren, Riley Ann Doonan and William Mason Doonan; one sister and brother-in-law, Janice and James Taylor of Boaz, Alabama.
