Dr. Fred M. Evers, 64, of Tifton, passed away on Monday, September 7, 2020 at Tift Regional Medical Center.
The Funeral service will be held Friday, September 11, 2020 at 6:00 P.M. at Northside Baptist Church with Dr. Frank Cox officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons, Staff and Preaching Class of Northside Baptist Church. A private committal will be held at a later date. Dr. Evers was born April 10, 1956 in Jacksonville, Florida to the late Huston Leo Evers and Doris Killam Evers. Dr. Evers was pastor of Northside Baptist Church of Tifton. He loved his Lord and devoted his entire adult life to serving him. He preached his first sermons as a teenager. Pastor Fred received a Bachelor of Arts at The Criswell College in Dallas, Texas, a Master of Divinity at The New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in New Orleans, Louisiana, and a Doctor of Ministry at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. He had forty-six years of ministerial experience (forty-three years in the pastorate). In addition to preaching at Northside every week, Pastor Fred maintained an active preaching schedule beyond its congregation.
Dr. Evers came to Northside June 20, 1999. He served twenty-one years. He led Northside in a building/relocation campaign and moved to new location December 23, 2007. Dr. Fred was leader in mission involvement and giving. He served on mission trips to Liberia, New York, Vancouver, Russia and Nebraska. He was featured in Christian Index article recognizing him for Mentoring and teaching young men who have been called to ministry. Dr. Fred served on the Board of Trustees at Brewton Parker, New Orleans Theological Seminary and Truett McConnell. He was active in the Georgia Baptist life, serving in the following areas: Executive Committee Chairman, President of the Preaching Conference, Chairman of the Administrative Committee and Chairman of the Nominating Committee. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and he especially loved his grandchildren who called him “Big Daddy”. Brother Fred was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed kayaking, fishing, riding his four-wheeler, hunting and camping. He loved to travel especially to St. Simons Island where he loved to ride his bicycle.
Dr. Evers is survived by his wife, Cindy Messick Evers of Tifton; his daughter and son-in-law, Katie Beth and Justin Sumner of Lenox; two sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel and Ashley Evers of King George, Virginia and Joshua and Clarissa Evers of Guthrie, Oklahoma; his grandchildren, Lawson Sumner, Colby Leigh Sumner, Landry Sumner, Grace Ann Evers, Madi Evers, Charlotte Evers, Jordan Evers and Jase Evers; his brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Ann Evers.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fred Evers Memorial Scholarship Fund, 4605 Murray Avenue, Tifton, Ga. 31794.
