Derrell Glen Carr, 70 of Chula went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, November 21, 2018.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 25, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. in Waterloo Baptist Church with Dr. Jeff Pangle and Rev. Corey Thompson officiating. Interment will follow in the Waterloo Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday, November 24, 2018 from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. at Albritton Funeral Directors.
Grandsons, grandsons-in-law and nephew Bryan Carr will serve as pallbearers.
Mr. Carr was born on December 19, 1947 in Tifton to the late Glennie Thomas Carr and Ruby Tanner Carr of Tifton. He graduated from Tift County High School in 1966. He married the love of his life and best friend Linda Dianne Sumner on June 24, 1966. Mr. Carr entered the US Army in 1967 where he served for three years. While stationed at Fort Meade, Maryland, he was a member of the Honor Guard and was Soldier of the Month. He completed his military service stationed in Korea.
Mr. Carr was a member of Waterloo Baptist Church and loved his Lord, his wife, his family and his country, and enjoyed talking with anyone that would listen about any of them. He was an excellent craftsman and enjoyed working with his hands. He also found enjoyment in solving mental puzzles, fishing and mentoring his grandchildren. An electronics repair specialist, Mr. Carr owned and operated a television repair shop for many years. He also drove the school bus transporting the children of the Chula community. He volunteered countless hours as a Blue Devil Brigade Band Booster. Mr. Carr was a member of the American Legion and Woodmen of the World. Always learning, he returned to Moultrie Technical college as an older adult. After graduation he became a mechanical designer at Kelly Manufacturing Company of Tifton, from which he retired in 2004.
Mr. Carr is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dianne Carr; children Damon Glenn Carr and Kimberly of Dallas, Ga., and Lisha Dawn and Harlie Townson of Chula; grandchildren B. J. Townson, Rebecca and William Smith, Nathaniel Carr, Brooke and Gabe Luke, Beau Townson and Bella Townson; great-grandchild Harlie Smith; brother and sister-in-law Randall and Jane Carr of Tifton; sister-in-law Joyce Carr of Tifton; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister, brother and sister-in-law Herman and Kitty Carr and brother Donald Carr.
