Charles Henry Majeski

Charles Henry Majeski, Sr. " Charlie", 84, of Tifton died Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 3:00 P.M.  in the memorial chapel at First Baptist Church of Tifton with Dr. Wayne Roe officiating. Interment will follow at Oakridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, April 15, 6:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. at Albritton Funeral Directors.

Joey Fleming, Melvin Thompson, Curt Branch, Grady Doss, Curt Majeski, Hank Majeski, Davy Davis, Dudley Clink, Steve Moore and David Fausett will serve as pallbearers. The Tifton Kiwanis Club, current and retired Ag Education and Georgia Young Farmer Teachers will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Mr. Majeski was born October 14, 1931, in Hart County to the late John and Edna Wells Majeski.

As a member of the First Baptist Church of Tifton, Mr. Majeski served on the Sunday school visitation ministry team for many years. He was a strong advocate for mental health and helped many people. He loved gardening, fishing and all animals. He especially loved his beloved Yorkie “Willie”. One of his greatest joys was sharing with others from his garden.

Mr. Charles H. Majeski graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture in 1952. He taught biological science and chemistry at Cochran High School for a year before returning to the University for a Masters in Education.

In 1955, Mr. Majeski began his career in Agricultural Education at Omega High School where he taught for nine years.
After Omega and Tift County High Schools consolidated in 1964, he taught at Tift County until 1969.

During this time he coached several state and national FFA winners.  An Honorary American FFA Degree recipient himself, Mr. Majeski taught 25 students who earned their American FFA Degrees.  Mr. Majeski was chosen as one of the two Outstanding Agriculture Teachers from Georgia in 1969.

After teaching high school, Mr. Majeski worked with the State Department of Education in Tifton as an area mechanics teacher. He was appointed Director of the Georgia Young Farmers Association the following year. Under his leadership, the association received national recognition for having the largest membership in the nation and many other outstanding accomplishments.

Mr. Majeski was in charge of overseeing the arrangements at the Georgia Young Farmers Winter Convention and organizing the annual Summer Tour.  The first “Georgia Young Farmer” magazine was published under his leadership. As editor, he wrote the stories, took the pictures, put the finished product together, and had the magazine printed and mailed to young farmers statewide. He served as its editor from 1971 to 1985.

Mr. Majeski was later appointed District Supervisor for South Georgia and held this position until his retirement in 1993, after 30 years in education. He was voted Kiwanian of the year in 1995-96. The Tift County Commission appointed Mr. Majeski to serve on the Behavioral Health Board in excess of 20 years and he remained a very active member until his death.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Majeski is preceded in death by two brothers, Jim Majeski and Garland Majeski and one sister, Jonel Simpson.

Mr. Majeski is survived by his wife of 65 years, Sara Davis Majeski; one son, Chuck Majeski of Ashburn; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Dottie and John Bassett of Tifton, Sue Majeski of Tifton, Beth and Dennis Daniel of Tifton; grandchildren, Hank and Tanya Majeski, Curt and Lindsey Majeski, Brittany and Brock Jones, Elizabeth and Patrick O’Rear and Daisy Daniel; great grandchildren, Charly Majeski, Johanna Majeski, Jacob Jones, Addilyn Jones and Walker O’Rear, numerous nieces and nephews and a very special friend, Keishar Miller.
