Carolyn Louise Dobbs Pope

Carolyn Louise Dobbs Pope, a beloved Mother and Mema of her family. Surrounded by her family, Mrs. Carolyn passed away peacefully on December 6, 2024, just days shy of her 85th birthday, at the Fellowship Brookside Assisted Living Center in Valdosta, Georgia. 

Her funeral will be held on Thursday, December 12, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at Waterloo Baptist Church in Irwin County. The family will receive friends before the service from 9:30 – 10:30 A.M. The interment will follow in the church cemetery. 

 Born on December 11, 1939, in Colquitt County, Georgia, she lived a life that was rich with love, faith, and devotion.

 Carolyn received so much joy in the way she loved and served her family. She could often be seen in the kitchen with a grandchild beside her preparing one of her favorite, family recipes. She had many gifts; two of her greatest were being a prayer warrior and captivating story teller. 

 At the center of Carolyn’s life was her unwavering faith in her Lord and Saviour. She was a member of Waterloo Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and previously taught the ladies Sunday School Class. She could often be found in the fellowship hall serving others and sharing her love of hospitality. 

 Carolyn graduated from Colquitt County High School in 1959. Later in life she became a decorator for Home Interiors and Gifts. Her passion for helping others create a beautiful and welcoming home became a ministry that allowed her to touch the lives of many women. 

 Carolyn is survived by her three daughters and sons-in-law: Christie and David Gann of Cleveland, Georgia; Lori and Chuck Collins of Columbus, Georgia; and Kaycee and Kent Johnson of Kingston, Tennessee, her grandchildren: Drew and E. J. Gann, Haylee and Russ Piltz, Lyndsey and Dustin Kilby, Zachary and Natalie Hageman, Cherish and Brad Miller, Lauren and Nick Cutsforth, Kenlee and Briley Bunn, Ethan Johnson, Hailyn Johnson, Mazie Grace Johnson, Hoyt Johnson, Boone Johnson, Nori Kayt Johnson, and Haizlee Rose Johnson, her great-grandchildren: Alan Piltz, Will Piltz, David Piltz, Archer Gann, Brooks Kilby, Bowen Kilby, Banks Kilby, Ella Kate Kilby, Maggie Jo Hageman, Hank Hageman, Hoyt Hageman, Whit Hageman, Grey Cutsforth, Livy Cutsforth, Caleb Miller, Elias Miller, and Ashlyn Miller, and her brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Melody Dobbs of Lakeland, Florida, and her sister-in-law Florence Dobbs and her brother-in-law, Harold Cook, who all held a special place in her heart.

 Carolyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Hoyt Daniel Pope, with whom she shared nearly fifty-five years of marriage before his passing on April 5, 2015. She was also predeceased by her parents, Charlie Victor Dobbs and Sarah Elizabeth Parks Dobbs along with her three brothers and two sisters-in-law Charlie Dobbs Jr and his wife Emma Lou, Edd Dobbs, and Dwane Dobbs, her two sisters and brothers-in-law Cathalene Taylor and her husband Gerald and Cornelia Cook.
