Bob Brewster

December 16, 1934 — January 5, 2025

Robert L. Brewster, affectionately known as Mr. Bob, passed away peacefully at his home in Tifton on Sunday, January 5, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on December 16, 1934, in Brownsville, Tennessee, he was the son of Robert Jackson Brewster and Mary O'Neil Brewster, both of whom predeceased him. He was also preceded in death by his only sibling, his sister, Gloria Strickland.

After graduating high school, Mr. Bob joined the U. S. Marine Corps after serving time in the military he started his career with Georgia Power where he had a fulfilling career, retiring after thirty-three years of dedicated service. His commitment to the community continued after retirement, as he served several terms as President of the Georgia Power Ambassadors. Education was also an important part of his life; after starting a family with his beloved wife, Margaret "Ann" Youmans Brewster, he returned to his studies at Valdosta State College, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree.

A man of integrity and faith, Mr. Bob was a devoted member of Northside Baptist Church in Tifton. Over the years, he served in various capacities within the church, including multiple terms as a deacon, Sunday School Teacher, choir member and trustee for the church. His gentle spirit was evident through his thoughtful gestures, particularly in sending cards to those who were sick or celebrating birthdays—a true testament to his care for others.Among his many interests, Mr. Brewster was passionate about coaching youth sports in South Georgia, with special fondness for leading the Ho Jo's Boys Softball team. His dedication led his coaching career to six different teams, all of whom competed at the national championship level in softball, baseball, and basketball. This connection with young athletes was one of the many ways he dedicated and shared countless moments of kindness that just made the world a better place.

In addition to his hobby for coaching youth athletic teams, Mr. Bob was also proud to have served as a hospice volunteer for the Hospice of Tift Area for many years, providing comfort and support to families during challenging times.

He is survived by his cherished wife of sixty-eight years, Margaret "Ann" Youmans Brewster; his children, Lisa and Steve Smith, Tim and Katrice Brewster, and Robert L.” Lanny” Brewster, Jr. and his partner Rob Nixon; and his grandchildren, Evan Spencer Smith, Daniel Lancer Smith, and Ashtyn Brewster. Mr. Brewster also leaves behind a host of great-grandchildren, including Savannah Smith, Micah Smith, Samuel Smith, Micayla Smith, Shepherd Smith, and Elliott Smith, who will carry forward his legacy of kindness and compassion.

The funeral service for Robert "Bob" L. Brewster will be held on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Albritton Funeral Directors with Rev. Stacy Phillips officiating. There will not be a public visitation and the interment will be private at Tift Memorial Gardens.
