Betty Jean (Tucker) Mathis

Betty Jean Tucker Mathis, 86, of Tifton passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at Tift Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 14 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Albritton Funeral Directors with Dr. Fred Evers officiating. Entombment to follow in Tift Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. before the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Donald Cromer, Tyler Cromer, Junior Gonzalez, Patrick Gonzalez, Jamie Mathis and Zach Mathis.

Mrs. Mathis was born March 30, 1931 in Colquitt County to the late Benjamin Raleigh Tucker and Mellie Hunnicutt Tucker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Eston Mathis who died in 1999; her daughter, Paulette Mathis Cromer and her son, James Edward Mathis, one brother and one sister. Mrs. Mathis was a member of Northside Baptist Church of Tifton. She was a retired seamstress for Belk Hudson Department Store and had lived in Tift County most of her life. She was very active in her church and loved her family. She enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles, fishing and tending to her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, they were the center of her life.

Mrs. Mathis is survived by seven grandchildren, Donald and Paige Cromer, Lisa and J.R. Gonzalez, Jamie Mathis, Kelly and Rick Davis, Paul Mathis, Brady Mathis and Montana Mathis; fifteen great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; her son-in-law, Don Cromer of Tifton; two sisters, Shirley Asbell  and Helen Courtney both of Moultrie.
