Mrs. Betty Gray Ellis, 85, of Tifton, passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2020 at Community Hospice in Jacksonville, Florida.
Due to the Covid-19 restrictions, a private family graveside service will be held Saturday, July 18, 2020 in Oakridge Cemetery with Rev. Larry Cone officiating.
Mrs. Ellis was born November 23, 1934 in Berrien County to the late Jimmy Gray and Julia Hancock Gray. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Vernon Ellis who died August 5, 1995, her son Vernon Ellis and eight brothers and nine sisters. Mrs. Ellis was a founding member of Eastside Baptist Church of Tifton and graduated from Berrien County High School. She was employed for many years at J. P. Stevens and later self-employed as rental property owner and store owner. Mrs. Ellis was a member of the Tifton Eastern Star, the FUMC Kitchen Band and she was an original member of the Singles Enjoying Lively Fellowship Club (SELF). She was a hardworking, strong Christian woman and she loved to travel. She loved and enjoyed the time she spent with her family and friends.
Mrs. Ellis is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Mitchell Colvin of Augusta, Georgia and Patty and Bob Wynne of Jacksonville, Florida; her daughter-in-law, Sheila Ellis of Chattanooga, Tennessee; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; one brother, Gene Gray of Enigma, Georgia and one sister, Eloise Garner of Hollywood, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Eastside Baptist Church, PO Box 540, Tifton, Ga. 31793.
